Things to do in Sarajevo
1.The Taslihan
The remains of Tašlihan lie along the western wall of Gazi Husrev Bey’s Bezistan. Built between 1540 and 1543, this stone inn was one of many objects to be included in Gazi Husrev Bey’s endowment. In 1879 the inn was badly damaged in a fire, after which it was knocked down. The remains can be seen as part of Europe Hotel’s summer garden.
2. Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque
Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque, known locally as Bey’s Mosque, was built in 1530 as part of the endowment set up by Gazi Husrev Bey, a Bosnian Governor who served almost constantly from 1521 until his death in 1541. Bey’s Mosque is now considered one of the most important architectural monuments erected during the Ottoman period in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
3. Museum of Sarajevo 1878 -1918
It was here, in front of this building, which now houses the museum, that Franz Ferdinand, the Princip, a member of the revolutionary organization, Austro-Hungarian heir-apparent, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated on June 28, 1914 by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the revolutionary organization “Mlada Bosna”. The museum’s exhibition covers the period of Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
4. Sarajevo Meeting Point of Cultures
This is the inscription of a special inlaid marking on Frrhadija Street which indicates where Eastern (Ottoman, Islamic) and Western (Austro-Hungarian Christian) cultures meet. Heading east from this spot leads to Oriental Bascarsija, and continuing west takes one past the western style buildings that line Ferhadija.
